OMG Adults + teens will love being entertained by Dennis while he strums his guitar at Suwanee Day THIS SAT. This international artist will be a magnet to those who are interested in guitar or painting lessons.
He received his training in Paris and has been teaching painting + guitar in Gwinnett for the past 8 years..He has already made a big first impression. He made the front page of a new Buford Publication- Buford Weely Illustrator.

Ms Anita will have her original portraits on view.. Take advantage of this opportunity to commission her for a portrait of your child, yourself, your mom . What a treasured heirloom to pass down.

Children Helping Children
We will also have clay hand built creations done by our elementary students for you to take home . We are requesting donations for these to go to children's art scholarships.

Had a phone call today .
An interested parent wanted to know about summer camps..She remembered that we used to be called Buford School of Art and that we were on Main St.
We were there for 8 years. Time flies by sometimes.
We were tickled to have another parent say thanks so much for being a big part of my child's foundation in art. Megan took classes from us when we were Buford School of Art.. Now she's all grown up and taking art classes at Atlanta College of Art..

Had an awesome time at the first Plein Air for Suwanee, GA.
Incredible coverage from Gwinnett Daily Post and the brand spanking new Suwanee magazine..Even had the mayor,Dick Williams attend the reception .

The almost 40 paintings are hanging now in Suwanee City Hall. You can't miss them. They are right at the front door as soon as you walk in.
Come see me painting in a garden.
I will be part of the High Museum's Art in the Garden. I will be painting plein air in a magnificent garden that is being promoted by the High in Loring Heights.. I'll be there May 14..2- 5 pm.. come check it out..High Museum's Artful Garden Tour- 7 incredible home gardens

Welcome Clay Sayre- our new cartoon teacher
The cartoon class on Sat has a new teacher- very experienced and full of humore..Loves teaching art and loves cartooning..Glad to have both in one teacher.
Our new ArtsCool thisrts are in.. Cheerful tangerine with lettering.. Great look with blue jeans.

We celebrated 6 yr old Noah's birhtday with him on Feb 19.. What a blast!! He chose Matisse as his spotlighted artist...Ms Jean loved being the party person in charge!

We do workshops for scouts and adult groups as well.

Had a great time with my teens last night. I learn something new each time. Tried a new way of doodling . I stayed quiet as the students talked. As they chatted I drew bits and pieces of their conversation..I doodled: a gun, read your mind,torture chamber, Britain,and many others. It became a reflection of lots of things-What are teens into? what interests keep reoccurring?
It was fun to see how quickly and creatively I could capture bits and pieces.
I loved watching them grow their projects . Most started out copying things in their environment: a penguins eye enlarged using opposite colors,combining different objects in an unusual way while enlarging and rearranging the objects,
It was really fun to watch my newest student totally change her first attempt and help her work through ways to strengthen the flow of her abstract composition.l

She has just received a scholarship from the Buford Artist Group .

I shared in a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the 40th birthday of my friend Shelia. I was invited to her home. It took me back to my African travels. She has many wonderful momentos of her home -Zimbabwa,Africa.

She modeled for our group last week and work a tradional African dress. We called her the African princess. These are a few of the photos from her modeling at my ArtsCool in Buford,GA.. We cant' wait to have her model again in Jan.

Shelia is the owner/cuartor for AfricArts in Lawrenceville,GA. She has many of my African originals and prints in her gallery.Don't miss her African Tresures !! She is on Crogan St on the square.

Made a Secret Appearance Before the Party

Tonight I meet with a parent who is interested in enrolling his daughter in our Cartoon Craziness class. He wants to check out the school to get a better idea of what we emphasize in our ArtsCool.

Having class tonight with some very talented and special students. Two of these students loooove to draw cartoons but can't attend my cartoon class on Sat. I am helping them with shading, proportions, and how to tie their work together so that it flows better.. Always challenging them to grow .. One student is working with wire..He's doing a wire drawing of a cartoon .. Should be very interesting to see how he solves the problem of connect in facial features using contour line.

Headed out to North Gwinnett Arts Association Holiday Party. Can't wait to see how it's decoarted and enjoy the company of fellow artists.. My freshly painted artwork is propped gingerly on an easel on it's last leg..It was from one of my last moments in South AFrica. I started with only 30 min in my grasp and emmient rain knocking... maybe I'll post a pic later.

Super time at GLA.Georgia Lawyers for the Arts at the King Plow Center in ATLWent with my good friend Rosemary Williams.Lots of great art..Got an excellent deal on lessons at Cherry Lion. I've been there and seen classes in session. Can't wait.. Awesome food. Ran into friends and met some new ones..

Painted at NGAA Open Studio at Suwanee Town Center. Don't miss this place. They are only open on Saturdays. Meet the artists. See all the awesome artwork in the store windows and hanging on the walls at no extra charge to the members.. NGAA continues to grow, give members incredible benefits, sell paintings.. .. I sold a print there today.. The buyer was very happy to get it.. Would love for him to see this one as well.

Just got back from Luminocity Atlanta. Was an outstanding performance and full of visual surprises..

Also received a surprise but a spectator who loudly insisted I had to say 'excuse me" for slightly brushing her.. Whoo.. This woman took me by the arm and proceeded to push me away from her..I broke her hold on me by saying I'm sorry over and over ..until she was glad to get rid of me..

Saw an accident on the street where a young girl lay on the ground. We saw her face of pain as she fell to the ground.. A policeman on a motorcycle was there at the same time she fell. It was confusing if he had anything to do with her.. If his motorcycle hit her or not..

Because of these incidents I will be sure to make sure and be highly aware of any safety issues..
I took my 11 yr old grand daughter with me.. She really enjoyed being on the streets of Atlanta at night.We were a bit disappointed that there wasn't a parade.. For some reason we were expecting one.
I attended this event because I joined a meet up group for Atlanta artist and they sent me an email on it..

As a professional artist

I turned work into the Atlanta Public Library. The reception for this exhibit is this Thurs..I always enjoy seeing what my fellow Women's Caucus for the Arts peers place on view.

The above image represents the painting I turned in for the Atlanta Library exhibit. I would be very interested in your comments would you view it. It's titled "Huggers" . I'd love to have your reaction of this painting.

Both paintings that I turned in was also done of the beach in Cape Vital South Africa.. Two completely different treatments of the same seascape.

Drawing for Adults-Fundamental drawing concepts by working with still life set-ups, figure models, etc .Focused study on line, value, composition, negative space, contour and gesture drawing. No matter what your preferred medium (acrylic, oil, watercolor, etc), brushing up on your drawing skills will improve your work and help you make a better connection between what you see and what you create. Open to the beginners as well as intermediate artists, let's get back to basics. Use our supplies for free on the first class so you will know what to bring to other classes. Had a great time today.. Great to start the week rendering a live model. I took an old painting I had done and painted a live model in a series of poses..
Catherine Pica is a lovely model. We are all saddened that she will soon have breast cancer surgery ..She is such a pretty lady and a wonderful model.
We had a group of 9 other artists sharing the expense of the model.
Next week one of the artists in our group will be the model..
Dec 6th we will have a live model from Zimbabwe ,Africa. She will be in traditional African dress..

We have a live model each Mon.. 10:30- 1:30. New artists need to call first.

This is held at Anita's ArtsCool in Buford,GA

Brush Lady
I took my artists brushes for sale to Kudzu Art Zone tonight right before there monthly meeting. I prefer to put them out before a meeting.

New art groups joining in the brush frenzy pretty often.

We will have a new art teacher for the adult drawing classes.. Welcome Linda Tilden.She is a very experienced art teacher and practicing artist.
She will start her classes in Jan on Tuesday mornings..10:00- 12:30 pm..She can't wait.. She loves to teach and is eager to watch her students absorb the neat techniques and shortcuts.

My Mon Adult Art class has been cancelled this week due to the school holidays. This class meets on Mondays 6:30- 8:30 pm.

I will be adding a NEW painting Class on Fridays- Paint Using Photos.. Check our website for more info.
My teen class has been goign well.We have been looking at various art styes and using this information to "respin" new art projects. Ever done an art project using Dadaism?

My teen class has been cancelled as well.They meet on Thurs nights 7- 9 pm
